Grand Prix Toronto Food Review

I suppose we mustache you a question. Do you enjoy food? Of course you do, everyone has to eat, but are you ready to sate your appetite with a meal fit for a ravenous horde? Mustache Burger will be at the Toronto Grand Prix serving up their signature Bacon Burgers alongside a wealth of other delicious meal options such as their poutine or their fish and chips either are worth 0-2 dropping for! Rancho Relaxo will be set up beside them ready to ignite your taste buds with their tacos, quesadillas, and super secret special we’re going to talk about later.

Chef Anthony and I started off our day by skipping breakfast with an easy sleep in special and a bye before heading to our main event: lunch! Hooman, the owner and operator of Mustache burger was kind enough to greet us during a busy day at Exhibition Place. We started off by talking about the upcoming Grand Prix and the possible need for Hooman to utilize two of his trucks just incase you fine folks threaten to overrun him during the lunch rush. Hooman assured us his team regularly tests for large events and will be ready with all the necessary tech to bring you a full top 8 eating experience.

Let’s delve into the match! It was tough, I’m not going to lie, It took a lot of willpower not to order a second and third burger immediately. We started off by making our order, “Two cheeseburgers with fries please!”. Hooman was quick to next level us by asking if we wanted bacon on them. Did we? You bet, he had our number on this one.

It was a quick wait beside a host of hungry patrons before we were handed our order. Hooman asked us to enjoy the burgers before turning back to serve the masses. We raced to find our seats not wanting our food to cool. Once seated we unwrapped everything and BAM! Hooman outdid himself. There on our burgers staring back it us was not one but two slabs of glorious peameal bacon. It appears the Chef and I had forgotten that this was Canada and when it comes to Bacon us Canadians don’t mess around.

That first bite. Can you imagine it? A tender, juicy, patty layered in cheese and peameal bacon. If a face can launch 100 ships this burger could stir up 100 tournament goers. Every single bite was a piece of paradise. But what good would a burger be without the fries? They surrounded the burger in a defensive ring. We had to peel them away one by one in order to get to that scrumptious burger. The fries were crispy on the outside, each bite offering a satisfying crunch. Inside they were soft, deep fried to a beautiful golden brown. Hooman, you outdid yourself. We know your hunger is growing but let’s see if we can make it ceaseless.

After visiting Moustache Burger we called up Donny Blaze at Rancho Relaxo and set a date to try their food. Chef Anthony and the gang met up with Donny just as Rancho Relaxo opened. Mr. Blaze clearly cares about his food and his patrons. We discussed possible bonus menu items for the day and he was happy to oblige, but before we get to that let’s talk tacos.

In this round of our food I was dying to try a quesadilla. Ever since Rancho Relaxo’s name came up, I knew what I wanted; roasted peppers, gooey melted cheese, and succulent chicken all served between a soft tortilla. I barely listened to the rest of our orders, my mind completely focused on those quesadillas and boy did they taste good. I ate them so quickly that I had time to snipe a few bites of the rest of our food.

Chef chose the taco sampler; a plate with pulled pork, veggie, and fish tacos. When you’re at the GP you’ll be able to mix and match too. So don’t worry if you can’t quite decide which taco you want. Of course we recommend the crunchy fried fish taco, but the vegetarian options are there and ready to rock your tastebuds.

Donny came by to check on us after ten minutes of munching only to find all our plates empty. So if you’re on a time crunch between rounds chowing down at Rancho Relaxo is the perfect way to fill your stomach before finding your seat.

Aggro knocking you around a bit? The big burritos from Rancho Relaxo are perfect options for the player with a little more time. These beasts come in a variety of flavors. Rancho Relaxo gives you the option of beef, chicken, tofu beef, and tofu beef. Oh! Pulled pork too, with a vegetarian remake featuring yams. We wish that we had the full three days you’re all going to have for this food, but we had an hour and our collective stomachs could only handle so much.

Now, the special. I mentioned it before but let’s delve right into it. Breakfast. Need more? Alright. Breakfast burritos. Don’t think about small burritos either, think big! Hollandaise Sauce, pulled pork, and all the fixings wrapped into a comfortable tortilla. Verify your decklist in one hand and chow down on your breakfast with the other.

Whichever you decide on, Moustache Burger or Rancho Relaxo, you simply can’t go wrong. Each food truck is bringing their best to the Grand Prix and at the end of the day the food wins. We would have loved to have brought some for you all to try, but let’s be honest, had we packed any to go, it wouldn’t have survived the ride home.
