Showdown Recap: Iconic Masters Limited

Welcome to another weekly Showdown Recap, where we take a look at what happened at Face to Face Games Toronto’s weekly Sunday Showdown, a series of 1k events feeding into the Ultimate Showdown 5k Invitational. This week, players battled in Iconic Masters Sealed on release weekend to open some sweet value and take down the top prize.

Duncan McGregor continued to absolutely dominate the Limited Showdown scene at Face to Face Games Toronto with his win this weekend. Duncan played a classic U/W Skies deck in his Top 8 draft with a couple of Seeker of the Way standing out in his list.

Showdown winner Duncan McGregor.

In my expirience this format is a little less polarizing than we are you used to seeing with Masters sets. There’s not as many hard rules about archetypes and I’m seeing a lot more “good stuff” decks than dedicated archetypal strategies. A good example of this is Taimur Rashid’s Temur deck which is just filled with solid Limited staples rather than doing something very specific.

Andrew Gordon showed up and Top 8’d another Showdown, with that said I’d like to ask the community to band together and stop him from doing well at the next one so we can avoid his subtle brag tweets going forward.

Tyler Nightingale made a triumphant return to the Showdown series with a nice finals appearance which I believe locks him for the Ultimate Showdown. We’re really starting to see a great metagame filled with the city’s top players qualified for the event so if you’re unsure check out the link below to see how many points you have.

With his win on Sunday Duncan moves himself up  Face to Face Games Ultimate Showdown leaderboard in preparation for the Ultimate Showdown in December and the rest of the Top 8 have started their march. Join us this weekend at Face to Face Games Toronto for our Standard Sunday Showdown, brush off that energy counter and and sleeve up your Rogue Refiners and come down to battle !
