Showdown Recap: Rivals of Ixalan Sealed

Welcome to another weekly Showdown Recap, where we take a look at what happened at Face to Face Games Toronto’s weekly Sunday Showdown, a series of 1k events feeding into the Ultimate Showdown 5k Invitational. This week, players battled Rivals of Ixalan Sealed  in honour of release weekend.

We’re now two weeks into a brand new Limited format and Face to Face Games Toronto brought you our second straight Sealed Showdown this past Sunday. Congratulations to our winner, Matt Thomason, who played Naya in the Top 8.

Your Showdown champ, Matt Thomason.

These G/W/R Dinosaur decks along with B/W have looked to be the best performing decks for the first two weeks. For my money (and reports back from GP Indianapolis) B/W is still the place you want to be most.

The format is pretty agressive, and the priority on two-drops in our Top 8 will show you that. Notably, Chris Ha Top 8’d another Showdown after his victory a few weeks back. He’s sure to make a run at the top spot on the leaderboard once again. Lucas Worrell just makes Top 8 of every event he registers for at the store and this was no exception.

On a lighter note I’d like to take the time to draw everyone’s attention to the bomb-tastic on-colour rares in Massimo’s U/G deck. I’m jealous just looking at the list!

Sunday’s Sealed Top 8

If you’re looking to play some Magic in town this weekend Face to Face Games has got you covered. First we’ve got our Modern Open on Saturday at Seneca College. Then a Standard PPTQ Showdown on Sunday. You do not want to miss this week of action so get to testing!

With his win on Sunday Matt moves himself up Face to Face Games Ultimate Showdown leaderboard. Next week it’s time for we’re battling Sealed again to celebrate the release of Rivals of Ixalan, come out and battle some B/W !
