Welcome to another weekly Showdown Recap, where we take a look at what happened at Face to Face Games Toronto’s weekly Sunday Showdown, a series of 1k events feeding into the Ultimate Showdown 5k Invitational. This week, players battled in Standard to take down the top prize.

Well, Daniel Fournier made the finals of another Showdown and this time managed to convert, making this oh so uncomfortable me having to give him “credit” or something. With that said, Fournier is obviously a great player and came equipped with a very targeted archetype to win energy mirrors. Fournier also hit a dab in the finals after drawing his lone copy of Hour of Devastation to, well, devastate Lucas Worrell’s board. This might be the greatest moment in the history of Showdown Finals.

Our Top 8 in Standard on Sunday

Ryan Sandrin followed-up on his RPTQ Top 4 with another strong finish here despite complaining that he got unlucky against Fournier for at least half the day. Chris Ha took a crushing defeat against Lucas Worrell in the Top 8 and the Worrell continued his onslaught of my friend-group by beating golden boy Jeff Swaluk.

The Top 8 was what you’d expect, seven-out-of-eight energy decks. Though, it is interesting that both finalists chose to play the heavy black version of 4C Energy which is a specific point of data if you’re looking to metagame this weekend. Maybe Gonti is just gas.

If you’re looking to get yourself qualified for our Ultimate Showdown on Dec. 10 than this weekend is your LAST CHANCE to get those precious last few points to reach 1oo. That’s right get out and play Legacy on Sunday to qualify !

With his win on Sunday Daniel moves himself up  Face to Face Games Ultimate Showdown leaderboard in preparation for the Ultimate Showdown in December. Join us this weekend at Face to Face Games Toronto for our Legacy Sunday Showdown, this will be your last chance to get those showdown points before the big dance !
