Welcome to another weekly Showdown Recap, where we take a look at what happened at Face to Face Games Toronto’s weekly Sunday Showdown, a series of 1k events feeding into the Ultimate Showdown 5k Invitational. This week players battled in War of the Spark Sealed with a Top 8 Draft to celebrate the release weekend of the new set!

If there’s anything we’ve come to learn about Duncan McGregor over the past few years at Face to Face Games Toronto, it’s that he’s an absolute monster at Limited Magic. He showed off his prowess again this past weekend, when he took down our Sealed Showdown.

Your Sealed Showdown champ, Duncan McGregor.

No matter the format, the time of year, the weather outside or the players in the room Duncan just cannot seem to be stopped in Limited at the shop. In the Top 8 McGregor drafted and Orhzov deck featuring two copies of Law-Rune Enforcer and a Vraska, Swarm’s Eminence.

You Sealed Showdown Top 8.

Joining Duncan in the Top 8 was Pro Tour champion Gab Tsang who played a nice Gruul deck, Zane Mitchell, Zack Reiber in his second consecutive Top 8, David Yin, Nash Jones, Will Hall and Lizzie Harms.

Zane in particular had a sweet Top 8 Draft deck featuring the very powerful Ugin, the Ineffable.

As the format has moved into its second week of playability, many have decided on it being a rather slow format. The number of planeswalkers really slows down the pace of play and allows players to throw hay makers back and forth.

Before I leave you for the week, we at Face to Face Toronto want to remind you about our upcoming 10k Mythic Championship Qualifier taking place on June 15. We’ll be hosting it at the Montecassino Hotel, and every registrant will get a free Arcbound Ravager promo with entry. Make sure to pre-register and we’ll see you there!

With his win on Sunday, Duncan cements his spot in the upcoming Ultimate Showdown, while the rest of our Top 8 have begun their march up the leader board to qualify.
