Welcome to another weekly Showdown Recap, where we take a look at what happened at Face to Face Games Toronto’s weekly Sunday Showdown, a series of 1k events feeding into the Ultimate Showdown 5k Invitational. This week players battled in Legacy to see who could take home the top prize!

I don’t know about you, but I for one am smiling knowing the Delver of Secrets has risen to the top of the Legacy format once again. This past Sunday, local Legacy aficionado Richard Welch piloted Izzet Delver to a victory at our Legacy Showdown.

Welch has been a top local player with all sorts of blue Legacy decks throughout the history of Legacy on the Showdown series.

Of course, as of late, Legacy has shifted immensely with the release of both War of the Spark and Modern Horizons. Narset, Parter of Veils and Dreadhorde Arcanist in particular have really been a breath of fresh air for the blue-based midrange archetypes we’re used to seeing dominate the format. Delver decks struggled a little in the absence of Deathrite Shaman for the last while, but Arcanist has changed that in a big way.

Your Legacy Showdown Top 8.

Welch defeated another high caliber local Legacy played in Jason Drossis in the finals. Jason played Elves on Sunday. The rest of our Top 8 feature Boston Schatteman on Temur Delver, Hugo Bry on Sneak & Show, Russel Phillips and Justin Glanzer both piloting Eldrazi Stompy, Wilkin Chau on his classic Dead Guy Ale deck and lastly Marcus Paulo Rocha who played Infect.

Legacy in Toronto continues to be just about as fair as possible. It’s no coincidence that our Legacy Top 8s all feature so many familiar faces. These players are masters with their decks and have really refined their ability to jockey for an advantage in these fair mirrors.

With his win on Sunday, Richard cements his spot in the upcoming Ultimate Showdown, while the rest of our Top 8 have begun their march up the leader board to qualify.
