Jund was the biggest player today with a meager 7% of the field. Long past are the days of blue shadowing more than 20% of the Toronto meta. I’m hesitant to declare that the format has become what it was always supposed to be, wide open and varied, but it sure appears promising. Felix Tse ended up taking the day AGAIN! He simple cannot be stopped. The top 8 showed us that Dredge is becoming a dominant force in Modern, but that it is not oppressive as it took up less than 10% of the field.

The big takeaway here is that Modern is an open range and therefore your sideboard needs to be capable of answering a swath of strategies. When choosing your fifteen, pick cards that are applicable to more than a single match-up. Of course there will always be boogeymen of the format that your deck might have trouble defeating. In those niche cases pack a little more hate. Keep in mind that the numbers would indicate that you’ll rarely see the same deck in a given day so don’t over focus your board.

If you’re planning on playing Modern in Toronto it would appear that you should pack an amount of graveyard hate. The decks that did well either had a plan for the graveyard or utilized it.
