Event Recap

Magic at Nanaimo and Quebec City

The F2F Tour ran two stops on Saturday, April 25, with simultaneous events in Nanaimo, BC and Quebec City, QC. Both rooms hosted Secrets of Strixhaven Sealed Regional Championship Qualifiers. Quebec City’s Saturday slate also included Modern and Standard RCQs, a CEDH Double Up, and an afternoon Chaos Sealed. RC invites were on the line in both cities.

Nanaimo

Nanaimo brought the Tour back to Vancouver Island, with the Coast Bastion Hotel ballroom hosting Saturday’s Secrets of Strixhaven Sealed RCQ. The qualifier drew 43 players across six rounds of double elimination, with Sean Hunter taking home the trophy. The win makes him a back-to-back Nanaimo champion after his 2025 Modern Super Qualifier win with Dimir Oculus.

The afternoon Chaos Sealed and on-demand events, including Commander pods, Strixhaven drafts, and the Buy Station, ran alongside the main event throughout the day.

Quebec City

Quebec City brought the Tour to the Centre des congrès de Québec for a five-event Saturday slate, with on-demand Commander and Strixhaven drafts running from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Magic artist Jeff A. Menges joined the room as a special guest, signing for players throughout the day.

Modern RCQ Top 8

The Modern RCQ drew 61 players. The Top 8 covered a wide swath of the format, with two copies of Boros Energy and one each of Golgari Yawgmoth, four-color Goryo’s Vengeance reanimator, four-color Domain Zoo, Jeskai Control, Colorless Tron, and Mono-Blue Control. Aggressive, midrange, control, combo, and big mana strategies all made the cut.

  1. Vincent Côté-Bonneau, Mono-Blue Control
  2. Tristan Drolet, Golgari Yawgmoth
  3. Gabriel Bernier, Boros Energy
  4. Maxime Auger, W-U-R-G Domain Zoo
  5. Matthieu McBane, Jeskai Control
  6. Malcolm Girard, W-U-B-G Goryo’s
  7. Samuel Nguyen-Rheaume, Boros Energy
  8. Antoine Duclos, Colorless Tron

Modern RCQ Winner: Vincent Côté-Bonneau (Mono-Blue Control)

Vincent took down the Modern RCQ with a Mono-Blue Control build centered on a Goblin Charbelcher kill. The deck uses Lotus Bloom and Tameshi, Reality Architect to ramp into early Charbelchers, with Whir of Invention serving as the tutor to assemble the combo.

A dense counterspell package anchored by Disrupting Shoal, Flare of Denial, and Force of Negation handles disruption, while Fallaji Archaeologist and Waterlogged Teachings keep the hand stocked through the longer games.

Standard RCQ

Philippe Gareau won Saturday’s Standard RCQ, taking home the Regional Championship invite from a Top 4 playoff.
